There are a many ways we can describe ourselves and I think the order in which we do so is interesting. I'm a husband, father of two girls, and a dog person. I enjoy woodworking and playing golf. I'm also a retired Air Force officer and Special Operations pilot. I currently fly for FedEx as a 757 First Officer.
In the first decade of my military career, I only wanted to fly airplanes. I turned down opportunities that would put me behind a desk a couple of times to ensure I would continue flying. This lasted until a commander convinced me of other opportunities and to make a long story short I soon moved to a fulfilling staff position, commanded a squadron, and ultimately served as a Deputy Commander in a unique Special Operations unit.
While I don't often lead off with my past, it certainly informs who I am- motivation, values, beliefs, and thought processes. My previous professional life had a high level of job satisfaction I knew would be difficult to replace. However, my job comes with a lot of time and space available to pursue other interests. Prior to my Air Force retirement, I was fortunate to get paired with an executive coach through the Commit Foundation and during those sessions, it became very apparent coaching might be a good fit for me in the future. So here I am, an ever-aspiring coach with a strong desire to help people achieve their potential.
